The Victim

Hello everyone. A warm and delightful evening to all of you. In my opinion, owing to recent events, this piece needs a disclaimer. Kindly don't take any offense from here and maintain calmness while reading this to the full.
Do you remember reading in news anything about Ankit Saxena? No? Alright, let’s discuss something for now which I assure you must be knowing- Nirvaya rape case. Till date, the country mourns the death of Nirvaya, take out candle marches and protest rebellion whenever a rape or sexual harassment case takes place and comes into highlight. We generally take our views to the social media to condemn these and there is nothing wrong about it.

Ok, back to the previous reference. Ankit Saxena was a Hindu boy from Delhi, who was in love with a Muslim girl and wanted to marry her. When the girl's parents came to know about this, they went to Ankit's house and after few hours of fight, slit his throat and killed him as they didn't want to give their daughter to him. And then later, they told the media that Ankit was abducting the girl and so in reflex, they had killed him. And guess, who was blamed for this. Yes, Ankit Saxena. Many people raised their voices, blaming Ankit for the incident and telling that he deserved to die. But then, there were also many others, who started to question the society. Some people even went on to call him names. OK, now think of the reverse situation. The boy belongs to a Hindu Brahmin household and they don't want their child to marry a Muslim girl. So the family go and kill the girl and tell the media that the girl had came to their house, demanding money from them, telling that she would go to the police and file a case of sexual harassment against them and they had to kill her in reflex. Do you think the media would buy this story? Absolutely not. They would portray the girl as a heroine and she would have become a national figure by this time. "Justice for the girl", "When will we change?" will be some of the slogans that would be shouted. Many demonstrations and candle marches would be taken in memory of the girl. The social media would be full of posts condemning the death of the girl and asking for the boy's side to be punished. The top politicians would scream their heads out on prime time asking for the case to be solved as soon as possible. But why such things will not happen in case of a boy? Is loving such a big crime that people need to be killed for it? Why is there no one to stand up for the boys?
Another incident dates way back to 2015, in Dimapur in Nagaland. Syed Sarif Khan was in jail due to the allegations of rape by a girl. On 5th March,2015, his jail was stormed by the mob, who dragged him out out of the jail and lynched him in the middle of the road. He died on the spot due to severe injury. But, it was later evident that the rape case filed against him was false. The girl needed a large amount of money and when the boy denied to give her the money, she filed a fake case against him. I'd take the opportunity to quote out of The Great Indian Novel by Shashi Tharoor: "India is not an underdeveloped country, but an overdeveloped one in an advanced state of decay." There are many proofs to support the above-mentioned quote. Have we broadened our mentality so much that we always see boys as the criminals? Can't girls lie? "Why would a girl tell a lie that she was raped?", is what we all think. But what if we are wrong? Why can’t we wait for conclusions?

But, after a lot of pondering, I really wondered, have we lost respect? Can we even not talk with a girl properly? Do we necessarily have to be the victim, sorry the guilty, every time? Is there even a place for men in this feminist world? Don't get so much carried away by feminism that you can't even see the right and the wrong. A girl doesn't necessarily speak truth every time. There's a short film called 'The Accused' in which the boy commits suicide in the end, after being falsely accused by the girl. We have come to such a state that we always consider girls to be right and boys to be wrong. This is where we need to change. I'm not trying to tell that all boys are good or all girls are bad, but that doesn't mean the vice-versa either.

You make big issues over raped and murders of girls, which you should make, but on the other hand, you refrain from speaking about a boy wrongly accused. Where are we heading? Feminism is defined in the dictionary as the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of 'equality of both the sexes.' There's a considerable difference between equality and seeing a gender as superior. We always try to portray the women as being superior to men. But hey, we are both equal. No one is inferior, no one is superior. We need to change our mentality again. Not being a troglodyte, doesn't mean that you'd be an ultramodern person. So next time, you hear about any such issue, consider the possibility that even the boy can also be a victim.
Finally, I would again like to say that please maintain the equality between male and female. Through this article, I didn't intend to appeal for the revive of superiority of the male, but for the decline of superiority of female and hence equality between the sexes. And sorry, if I hurt the sentiments of anyone reading this; and please don't hate me after reading me. I was just giving my opinion.
